The Middle School years are a time of significant growth, as pupils develop greater independence and begin to shape their own academic interests. At Brighton College Rome, we guide them through this important stage with care, ambition, and high expectations.
We are a community that values curiosity, effort, and kindness. Our specialist teachers are committed to inspiring a genuine love of learning, encouraging pupils to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and engage deeply with their subjects.
Pastoral care will remain central to our approach. We recognise the opportunities and challenges of adolescence, and our supportive environment ensures that every pupil feels understood, encouraged, and known as an individual.
Life in the Middle School will be busy, varied, and engaging. A broad curriculum provides both challenge and opportunity, allowing pupils to explore new subjects while building strong academic foundations.
Beyond the classroom, a wide range of co-curricular activities will encourage pupils to discover new interests and develop existing talents. Whether through sport, the arts, or academic enrichment, pupils will build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.
With Rome as both backdrop and inspiration, pupils will benefit from opportunities to engage with history, culture, and language in ways that enrich their learning and broaden their perspectives.
By the end of Year 9, pupils will be well-prepared to make informed choices about their next steps, equipped with both the academic skills and personal confidence to succeed.
From September 2027, Brighton College Rome will welcome pupils through to Year 9. Our growth continues in September 2028 with the launch of our first Year 10 cohort, marking the start of a robust and diverse IGCSE curriculum designed to prepare pupils for global success.
Our Middle Years Curriculum will build a strong foundation for IGCSE, deepening subject knowledge while strengthening essential study skills and a lifelong love of learning. As connections between subjects become clearer, pupils would be supported to think more critically and independently.
Beyond the core subjects, pupils will engage in a vibrant curriculum of creative and performing arts, technology, and athletics. Central to this is Story of Our Land, Brighton’s unique integrated humanities course, complemented by modern languages and public speaking to ensure a truly holistic education.
In Year 9, guided by tutors and senior staff, pupils will make informed IGCSE subject choices. Alongside core subjects English, mathematics and the sciences, pupils will study Italian and select from a broad range of options, including humanities, languages, arts, and technology. Each pupil would be carefully supported to create a balanced pathway into Sixth Form and beyond.
